2020 Alberta Open

Wolf Creek Golf Resort will host the 2020 Alberta Open at the Links course and will undoubtedly have the course conditions pristine.

This tournament means a lot to me. I grew up golfing at Lacombe GCC and Wolf Creek when I was a junior, and built so many memories playing out there over the years. Rod Whitmans design of both the South and North sides to the Links course is superb, and I cannot wait for the Wolf to bite golfers. The Vold family has been very good to mine over the years, with my dad hosting many Oilpatch tournaments there and my Grandfather, Jack Brooks, volunteering countless hours for junior golf at the facility.

I am honored to have received a Sponsor Exemption from Alberta Golf. A huge thank you to them for extending that to me!

South Course breakdown.

Morningside - The opening hole on the south course. Used to play this hole at dusk after hanging out on the range all day, ‘free’ of charge of course.
Halfner Corner - A short but tricky par 3 with a slope down the middle of the green pushing most ‘good’ shots either left or right off the green.
Dupe’s Revenge - One of the best holes on the property, this longer par 4 hits into a prevailing wind, over water. Your approach shot to an elevated green can get blocked out if you hit your drive to the right.
Devil’s Trap - Straight away par 4 framed by Aspen forests on either side, that start about 120 yards out from the green. Hitting less than driver brings sand traps into play on the left side, an intimidating tee shot.
Sandy Divide - This is a birdie hole, fairly open tee shot with a massive, but safe, waste bunker to the right, with a flatter green.
Teeth of the Wolf - One of the smaller greens on the course with steep slopes on either side, from 225 on the back tee box you’ll look up and wonder if it’s even possible to hit the green.
Pinnacle - The uphill dogleg right turns right early, so cutting the corner is really the only play. Another birdie hole as a good drive will yield a straightforward wedge shot to medium difficulty green complex.
Temptation - I’ll be tempted to go for the green on this 341 yard par 4, as the best angle to the green is from pin high. Don’t be short in the sand!
Hell’s Highway - Love this long par 5 coming back to the campground. Two terrific shots are needed to get close to the green. I’ve seen this hole wreak havoc, be careful.
